What is The Green Charter?
Crafted by the OSA and backed by leading optometric bodies, the Green Charter outlines a sustainable path for optical companies, empowering them to embrace eco-friendly practices and secure a greener future for the industry, mirroring the NHS Evergreen program's approach.
Are you an NHS supplier?
The Green Charter has been designed along the existing rules of the NHS England Evergreen program.
- From April 2027 all suppliers must publicly report targets, emissions, and publish a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) for global emissions aligned to the NHS net zero target, for all of their Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
- From April 2028: New requirements will be introduced overseeing the provision of carbon footprinting for individual products supplied to the NHS.
How to get your Green Charter certificate
After registration you will receive guidelines and tools to help you through the process. Your evidence documents will be validated by the Green Charter assessors. You will receive notice of certification and your details listed in the Green Charter public database. Certifications are valid for 12 months at which point you will need to resubmit updated evidence to maintain your certificate.
